With mobile phone penetration in Central & Eastern Europe clearly saturated, mobile phone companies are looking for new ways to grow their revenues. One great way to do that could be exploiting mobile payments technology, according to KPMG’s latest report entitled Mobile Payments in Central & Eastern Europe.
In addition to showing how this exciting technology offers opportunities for both mobile providers and banks, while also empowering consumers, KPMG’s survey provides an overview of how m-payments is being used in the region – what’s working and what isn’t – as well as how it is being regulated. While the application has registered some successes in individual CEE countries, KPMG found that the broader adoption of mobile payments is being hindered by things like a lack of standardization, and a lack of cooperation among mobile network operators, banks and retailers.
